What is a Holistic Pharmacy?

Ho·lis·tic /hōˈlistik / characterized by comprehension of the parts of something as intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole.

Never heard of a Holistic Pharmacy? You wouldn't be alone. We often get the question about who we are and what our philosophy is. In today's environment of increasingly politicized medicine and divisive dialogue, we know it is more important than ever to be clear about who we are and what we stand for, which has not changed since we opened in the Fall of 2019.

We believe that the whole person should be addressed, that illness and disease can not be viewed in a silo but rather must be viewed in the context of the whole person. Additionally, holistic means that we offer a broader range of services or modalities so we can more wholly care for our clients. So while we do prefer the more natural approach, we do also believe that there are times and circumstances when more allopathic approaches, for example, pharmaceuticals, are appropriate. This may be based on the condition but also may be based on respecting and upholding our client's belief systems.

We pride ourselves on creating a non-judgemental environment of care for our clients. This is essential to the success of our mission; to enhance the pharmacy experience by humanizing it- empowering people with the knowledge and choices to live healthy lives. If we don't first and foremost ensure that we can meet everyone where they are on their health journey AND in the context of their value system, we will never have the opportunity to share our knowledge and guidance.

We are evidence-informed and believe in using science to guide our recommendations to increase safety and efficacy in the use of herbal medicine and pharmaceuticals. We believe in science and informed shared decision-making that focuses on a personal risk: benefit analysis.

Holistic care at Remedy means that we listen to you first, then take our unique skillset to match you with the integrative services and care that meet your health goals.

Allie Meador, CPhT

Compounding Pharmacy Technician

____________________________________

A San Diego native, I completed my pharmacy technician training at Valley Career College in 2011. My career has primarily focused on compounding and customer service. During the pandemic, I worked in logistics, managing the shipping and receiving of medical supplies and telehealth carts for hospitals nationwide. Currently, as the compounding technician at Remedy Pharmacy, I personally prepare each compound for our patients. I love the direct connection this creates between patients and their medications, allowing them to engage with the source of their treatment.

Outside of work, I enjoy snorkeling in La Jolla with my family and exploring San Diego's vibrant food scene.
